Newsletter No. 6 Hi there, January is now upon us and I'd like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year. It was fantastic to ring in 2012 with so many of our regulars as well as some new faces. I'm not a big believer in New Year's resolutions, but I do believe it's important to set yourself goals and I have many for Odette's in the forthcoming year. As if 2011 wasn't busy enough! I've got great plans for our garden, and we'll soon be planting herbs so that all the herbs used in our dishes will come fresh from here. I'm also planning on introducing a smoking house so we can smoke our salmon and bacon ourselves, making us a little more self-sufficient. We've got lots happening over the next three months as well, including our first supper club and wine evening of 2012, as well as Valentine's Day, Santes Dwynen and Mother's Day. I'm delighted to say that we raised an impressive £609 for the Variety Club's Christmas Appeal. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who kindly made a contribution. The money was put towards educational Christmas presents for Kentish Town Primary School who were delighted with their gifts.

I'm so pleased with how popular our Sunday Supper Clubs proved last year, and so I'm really looking forward to hosting more this year. The first will take place on Sunday 22nd January and will be based around chocolate. Three courses will be served including lobster with chocolate pasta, and accompanying wines will be served throughout. The cost is £50 per head. Odette's often gets voted one of the most romantic places to dine in London, and although I know I'm biased, I have to agree! I know a couple who have been coming here on their anniversary every year since their first date at Odette's 35 years ago. The restaurant boasts so much character and is perfect for a relaxed and intimate meal, and our bar downstairs can be particularly romantic with its two private alcoves. We will be offering a special sharing menu for Santes Dwynen including canapés upon arrival followed by a starter, main course, cheese course and dessert. As on Welsh Valentine's Day, on the 14th February we'll be offering a sharing menu that I've created especially so that you can share each course with your partner. There will be canapés upon arrival, a starter of cured organic salmon, and roast sirloin of Welsh black beef and truffle mash for the main course. The cheese course will include some of the finest English cheeses and chutney, followed by warm chocolate mousses served with orange marmalade and orange Madeleine's. The meal will cost £150 per couple excluding drinks.

A day that's obviously very close to my heart is St David's Day on 1st March. As you'd expect, we will be joining in the celebrations here at Odette's and we'll be serving a Welsh-inspired, four course dinner menu. There will be organic salmon with confit orange and basil salad for starter, followed by Roast Elwy Valley Welsh mutton for the main course, a cheese course and then a hearty Welsh Bara Brith Butter Pudding. Like our Sunday Supper Clubs, our Monday Wine Evenings also went down well with you all last year, and so I'm pleased to say that the first one of 2012 will take place on Monday 12th March. This time we'll be focussing on some wonderful Italian red and white wines. We have chosen this region because it's an area that we often don't know much about. My love for cooking started in mum's kitchen back when I was a child, I used to help her make anything she would let me get my hands on!
